CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
South

This section looks at the CTA lines which go south and southwest.  After this page the scenes are ordered beginning with some views along the South Side "L," which hosts the Green Line's two branches.  Next comes the Orange Line, which leaves the Loop along with the Green, and goes out to Midway Airport.  The section ends with sights along the Red Line, which comes out of Dearborn subway to run mainly in the median of the Dan Ryan Expy.

This scene is from an outbound Orange Line train.  We have just recently left the Green Line and South Side "L" structure.   The tracks branching left allow for access to and from the Red Line Dan Ryan service.  This connection has not been in regular passenger service since 1993.  An inbound train from Midway is just ahead, on the newest heavy rail construction on the CTA.
