CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
Northbound at Sox-35th

Highway traffic is fairly light along the Dan Ryan Expy. in this view.  A northbound train is stopped in the median at Sox-35th.  In the mid-2000s a truly major road rebuilding project was making driving along this stretch immensely difficult, which resulted in increased ridership along the Red Line.  Nearby billboards proclaimed the stress reduction advantages of taking the train.

The major line adjustments of 1993 took Dan Ryan trains off the Loop, and through-routed them with Howard service to the north -- today's Red Line -- using the State St. subway.  These are the two busiest segments on the CTA rail network.
