CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
Junction with the Orange Line

This scene is from the platform at the Cermak-Chinatown station on the Red Line.   The receding train is bound for the State St. subway, and then will go up to Howard on the North Side.

Service along the Dan Ryan Expy. began in 1969.  Until the connection to the State St. subway was built in the early 1990s, trains continued up the ramp here to join with the South Side "L" tracks, out of view to the right.  The Orange Line now runs across the picture on the overpass, and the sloping connection is not in regular service.
