No Railings

This view from the front window of a train along the South Side "L" shows it to be pretty much as it must have looked a half century and more ago.  I remember the first few times I rode the system in the 1960s, and how I was a bit perturbed -- irrationally so -- by the lack of guard rails at the edges of the structure, such as here.  The inside third rails are fully exposed.
