PORTLAND MAX LIGHT RAIL
Red Line

The Airport extension opened in 2001, more than fifteen years after MAX began operating between Portland and Gresham.  This added the area's second light rail line, and brought about color-coded route identification for the system.  The Red Line runs with the Blue Line from Beaverton Transit Center through downtown and the Lloyd District.  It leaves the original Eastside route just beyond the Gateway/NE 99th Ave. Transit Center, and then travels 5.5 miles further out to Portland International.  This section presents various scenes after the line heads off on its own.

Service to the airport had been in operation for only for a couple of weeks when this photo was taken.  The control tower for PDX is visible in the background.
