SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT RAIL
Night Sounds

The Pacific Ocean is in the distance in this photo, and trains in each direction occupy Judah St.

The motel sign marks the location of my first night's stay in California, 1969.  The sign and the motel name and the transit vehicles have changed over the years.  But whenever I pass this way, as I have on many occasions since that time, my thoughts focus back on that first night I ever spent near the Pacific.  And my mind hears again the harshly beautiful sounds of the trolleys turning, turning along the tight loop at the end of the N-Judah late into that March night.
