MEMPHIS HERITAGE RAIL
Three Lines In and Near Downtown

The Metropolitan Area Transit Authority operates three heritage trolley lines through and near downtown Memphis.  Many of the vehicles are restored original streetcars; others are replicas.  Several different classes of unit operate, and a variety of colorful exterior paint schemes helps to make riding the system an interesting and fun experience.

The original line is the Main Street Trolley, which dates to 1993.  About four years later the Riverfront Loop was put into operation.  The newest route, the Madison Ave. Line, started in 2004.

In this view along Main St. in center city a Loop car is heading northbound, while a Main Street vehicle passes by in the other direction.
