The Main Street Mall was a rather failing
pedestrian-only affair before the coming of the trolley in 1993.
The Main Street Trolley runs for about two miles.
The downtown area through which it passes continues to evolve, with a lot of conversion of former
commercial buildings to condos and apartments. Many blocks
have a pleasant leafy presence, as is the case in this view near the
Jefferson station.
Trolley stops are placed about every two blocks for much of the
route. Weekday trolleys run often on all three routes, and
north of Madison, with three lines going northbound and two
southbound, transit activity is frequent, colorful, and very
enjoyable to watch. |
