The Orange Car has some red patterning on its sides. This
view looks along Westlake Ave just beyond the Westlake & 7th stop.
The initial line cost somewhat more to construct than was originally anticipated,
ending up at a price of about $52 million. Almost half that
amount was borne by a special tax assessed on nearby property owners.
Apart from this funding source, there were grants and public monies, along
with sponsorship revenues realized. But there was also some public
concern that continuing operational costs would divert money
from other deserving city and county transportation projects.
