SACRAMENTO LIGHT RAIL
Alkali Flat/La Valentina

In this view at Alkali Flat/La Valentina station a train to Watt/I-80 is on its dedicated portion of 12th St.

This series presently does not include, alas, any images from the next seven stations along the route as it passes through North Sacramento.  The line crosses the American River and former Western Pacific mainline during this stretch, and interchanges with the main RT system yard and shops, located between the Swanston and Marconi/Arcade stations.  A stretch beyond that parallels the Union Pacific (former Southern Pacific) Donner Pass route (which it had crossed under, near Alkali Flat/La Valentina), before it bridges over those rails to reach the Watt/I-80 Terminal.

Much of the light rail route system takes advantage of corridors of current or former rail lines.  This leg also follows in part the old Sacramento Northern interurban right of way, not too far northeast of here.  SN was one of the country's longest interurbans, extending, at its maximum, more than 200 miles between Chico and the Bay Area.
