SACRAMENTO LIGHT RAIL
Waiting for the Traffic Signal

An impressively long light rail train rides along its reserved portion of street pavement on 12th St.  The train is stopped for a red signal at E St. on this rather slow part of the route.  As soon as the traffic light changes it will head into the Alkali Flat/La Valentina station.  The scene is just a bit north of the center city, and downtown buildings are visible in the background.

Many scoffers expected failure when Sacramento's light rail was initially planned and constructed.  But the service has been well patronized, and the system continues to plan for future expansion.
