East of the Southern Pacific tracks, a short
freight spur serves the local newspaper plant. Freight
cars block the single track in this view. An old Southern
Pacific branch line,
formerly California Central Railroad, continued from Folsom
through this area and then into center city along R St. Vestiges of
disused and orphan
rails are still in evidence on the blocks behind the camera.
