PORTLAND MAX LIGHT RAIL
Pioneer Courthouse

Because of the short blocks in downtown Portland, all MAX trains are limited to no longer than two cars.  And with the close spacing of stops on the older tracks along SW Morrison St. and SW Yamhill St. (Blue and Red Lines), there are six different  stations that facilitate transferring between Portland Mall traffic and the earlier route.

This northbound Green Line train is at Pioneer Courthouse/SW 6th Ave., in between the two streets carrying the original light rail service east-west through center city.  It is the the third stop in from Portland State, with three more stations remaining before the route accesses Steel Bridge.

Pioneer Courthouse appears beyond the train.  This historic structure, strengthened and renovated and still in use for its original function, goes back well into the nineteenth century -- very old by Northwestern standards.
