PORTLAND MAX LIGHT RAIL
Pioneer Square South

The original downtown route uses two narrow streets to move in a generally east-west alignment (albeit one skewed from cardinal directions).  SW Yamhill St. carries eastbound Blue Line traffic toward Gresham, and the Red Line to the Airport.  It is one block south of SW Morrison St., which carries westbound passengers out to Beaverton and Hillsboro.  There are four stops in the Free Rail Zone Square along each of these two streets.   Both Yamhill and Morrison allow for one lane of regular street traffic.

Many of the people in this morning scene had exited this eastbound train at Pioneer Square South, located just beyond the cross street.  There is one further station, behind the camera, for the train along Yamhill before the rails turn toward the north and Steel Bridge.
