CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
Southwest Corner

A train twists toward the camera from the Van Buren segment of the Loop and onto that over Wells in this scene.  Many years ago this corner had its own junction.  Before the Congress Expressway project in the 1950s, Garfield Park and Douglas Park trains continued straight west over Van Buren (photo perspective of left to right).  Interurban cars of the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin also passed that way.  Earlier still, trains from the Logan Square "L" also joined and left the Loop here.
