This Red Line subway station at Jackson has taken on a
distinctively seasonal appearance in this view. There isn't the
hint of snow anywhere in sight.
Construction has been halted on an expensive project that would have had
a significant impact on the two underground arteries. A new
subway station between State and Dearborn (and
Randolph and Washington) was to be the terminal for non-stop routes to
both O'Hare and Midway airports. The new services in cars
specially configured for the airline passenger's needs was envisioned to
be run by private enterprise on
public infrastructure.
Massive cost overruns on initial work have left this entire scheme in an
active status, pending finding additional private enterprise
participation. |
