SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT RAIL
At San Francisco State

The M-Ocean View is the longest of the three light rail routes that the rider can take that operate between Balboa Park and downtown.  After the private right of way beyond West Portal Ave. the line turns onto busy 19th Ave. for relatively speedy running in the median.  This inbound Boeing-Vertol train is about to reach the station at San Francisco State University.  Both the school and the nearby Stonestown Galleria shopping center are major traffic generators along the route.

It was close to this location that in March of 1969 I first beheld a San Francisco trolley -- one of the handsome PCCs.   That was one very significant day in my personal history of transit exploration.

After completing the stretch along 19th, the line uses four city streets to get to the outbound terminal.
