UTA LIGHT RAIL
Freight Track Joins

This view taken from the 1300 South/Ballpark station looks in the opposite direction from the image shown on the previous page in this series.  TRAX continues ahead, joining street pavement for the rest of its run into and through downtown.

UTA bought much of the right of way for the Sandy/Salt Lake Line south of center city from the Union Pacific.  Local freight service continues during overnight hours, at times when TRAX is not in service.  The present freight operator is the Salt Lake City Southern Railroad, owned by Utah Railway.  The rusty freight track branches to the left.  After this photo was taken, this portion of the spur line was electrified.
