Trains pass each other on Steel Bridge in this scene,
taken from
the north sidewalk. The inside
lanes of the upper deck of the bridge are reserved for light rail,
although that was not the case when MAX crossed here in the earlier years.
Road traffic uses the single outside lanes in each direction to pass
along
this old artery, which was once designated as part of a major highway route going from border to
border.
There is a narrow walkway on each side of the upper deck. The
addition in the early 2000s of a bicycle trail, accessible also for pedestrians, on the lower level was a
major improvement in a city where many people ride bikes, and walk. |
