Downtown Portland lies in the distance behind car

that these cars honor went high up in the West Hills -- visible in the background

to the city park bearing that name. Service ended in 1950 on that
route.
The few vehicles in the Vintage Trolley fleet, delivered in the 1990s, were manufactured
by Gomaco Trolley Co. of Ida Grove, Iowa. That company has provided
various replica models to a number of locations across the country. Some of
its other units are featured on pages in this collection devoted to Little
Rock, Tampa, Memphis and Charlotte.
The manufacturer tells us that these particular cars "are faithful
reproductions of the 500 series car manufactured by J.G. Brill Company for
the Portland Traction Company in the early 1900s." |
