Heavy equipment and workers are much in evidence in this scene north
of SW Morrison St. The poster advertises "The Next Big Thing
Downtown," and depicts a "Type 4" LRV -- with service for
that model still almost two years in
the future at the time of this 2007 image. This is one of several
construction photos in this segment.
The bend in the visualization is common to all streets running north-south
in downtown Portland. North of the vicinity of W Burnside St., their
alignments follow cardinal directions. South, all
arteries skew to and from the southwest, angling to and from magnetic north as it was
at the time the street pattern was developed in the 1840s. These
blocks roughly parallel the flow of the Willamette
River. |
