Both MAX and the Portland Streetcar utilize one-way
streets to serve downtown. This results in four intersections at which
rails for the two systems cross. MAX runs generally east-west here, with the other
service crossing
north-south. All streets are tilted somewhat from cardinal directions
through the heart of downtown.
At SW 10th Ave. and SW Morrison
St., the corner ahead in this view, a
"wrong way" switch allows streetcar movement to and from MAX,
something that is
required for major maintenance, which must be done at MAX facilities.
A westbound
MAX train is beginning to cross 10th in this scene, and in the distance a streetcar is
approaching from the north.
