Two trains are at Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave. station in
this view. This is the easternmost stop in the Free Rail Zone.
Not far ahead the outbound Blue Line train will enter private right of way,
and will be able to achieve a much faster running speed.
The massive shopping
center that bears the Lloyd Center name is about a block left, to the north.
It was an early adjunct to the downtown Portland shopping zone, but
center city retail still thrives.
Over the decades the mall has been expanded and has been "reinvented."
The switch tracks in the foreground lead to and from a short spur along 11th
that once saw Portland Vintage Trolley service. There still is a Vintage
Trolley, but it no longer serves this area. |
