To those following the METRO route who are not familiar
with the topography of the Phoenix area, it comes as a surprise to
see water and recreational boat activity along the way. The
bridge on the right carries METRO across Tempe Town Lake. It's
the most dramatic piece of construction on the line's entire length.
The old bridge to the left carries Union Pacific into Phoenix from
the southeast. It once handled Southern Pacific and, later,
Amtrak passenger traffic. If the light rail rider's timing is
fortuitous, the occasional local freight may be seen crossing the
historic structure.
The one-way fare on METRO is $1.25. All-day passes, good also
for riding on the area's local bus network, are a modest $2.50.
The line uses the common system of automated fare machines on
station platforms, and
proof-of-payment requirement. |
