Above the Van Wyck

The line to Station D, Jamaica Station, is the longest of the three routes which comprise AirTrain.  It runs above the Van Wyck Expressway, an intensely busy artery, for about three miles.  Although one can't see much of the road below, one can certainly appreciate the efficiency of zipping along at high speed on the dedicated right of way.

The linear induction technology utilized by AirTrain is evidenced by the wide middle rail seen between the two running rails in this photo.
