After its stretch running alongside or near Hiawatha Ave.,
and after the short tunnel under some parkland, the
southbound line curves onto quiet
Minnehaha Ave. for several blocks. It is a mixed-use area, with older
homes, some apartments, and a rather motley variety of businesses.
Light rail has helped bring new residential development.
Train speeds, which can be potentially as high as 55 miles per hour
elsewhere, are
restricted to just over half that amount here. In actual practice
trains run no faster than 40 miles an hour along most of the entire
route.
The downtown skyline
is still prominent in this view. |
