Most of the final three miles of the route to the west
and south, once it leaves the freeway median, is elevated. The
line travels near several large industrial
facilities in El Segundo, with mammoth parking structures. Employment
has been less than fully stable in this part of the L.A. basin, and
some of the aerospace industry presence that the line was envisioned
to serve is gone.
Los Angeles International Airport isn't far away, and one can view
the provisions made for a future possible rail connection adjacent
to the Aviation/I-105 station. But you can't presently get
there by public transit without transferring to a free bus shuttle.
Studies are ongoing.
The vibrantly green patch of earth visible here beyond the El
Segundo/Nash station was for sale in 2004 when the photo was
taken. |
