LOS ANGELES METRO LIGHT RAIL
Leaving Union Station

The Gold Line section begins with pages that follow the route in stages from Union Station out to Pasadena, and then it continues with scenes intermixed from all along the line, including a handful of pre-opening images from the Eastside Extension.

This photo is from early January, 2004, the first winter of the Gold Line's existence.  The photographer is on one of the commuter rail platforms at Union Station.  The lower tracks curving toward the right connect with the Metrolink and Amtrak networks that carry trains in multiple directions to and from downtown Los Angeles.  A two-car Pasadena-bound light rail run is ascending to the initial elevated portion of the route.

It is a clear day, and the distant San Gabriel Mountains are prominent in the  background.
