The heavily used Blue Line features a
half-mile subway from its terminal under downtown L.A., then has a
stretch of reserved running
along Flower St., followed by more than two miles of reserved
running in the middle of Washington Blvd. Beyond that
comes the lengthy private right of way along the former and much-lamented Pacific
Electric, with lots of road crossings and some
soaring overpasses. In Long Beach there is some additional
reserved street running, including a one-way loop through downtown.
Both tracks are occupied in the view from the center platform at Pico, first
station south from the terminal.
The downtown tunnel ends a block or so behind the camera. |
