The are eight
stations along the underground portion of the route, with the last
stop located at University. In this scene an inbound train
waits for departure time at that terminal. The South Campus of
the University at Buffalo is up above.
This unit of the State University of New York is a major traffic
generator, but the line fails to reach the much larger North Campus,
several miles further out, as was originally contemplated. There
is some renewed hope that that unbuilt segment may see fruition.
When the line was planned, it was anticipated
that
trains not only would continue further out, but also that this would be just one route of an extensive
rail network. High construction costs and area-wide economic and
social issues to date have overcome those plans. |
