PATH HEAVY RAIL
Exchange Place

The year was 2000 when this photo was taken.  A World Trade Center-bound train was just clearing the Exchange Place station on its way into the tunnel under the Hudson River.  It is but one stop from here to the loop at the end of the line in  Manhattan.

This station was closed for more than a year and a half following the events of September 11th.  When the station reopened service had not resumed to Lower Manhattan, and thus for a brief time trains terminated here, with newly installed crossover switches in place to the west  to allow appropriate train routing.
