CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
Newer Tower 18

This scene also looks west from Clark/Lake, but this time the camera is located on the eastbound platform.  The transit junction at Lake and Wells is like no other heavy rail crossing in the country.  Two through tracks pass over two other through tracks at right angles.  And five of the eight potential track-to-track switching opportunities exist.  One line -- the Pink -- must cross over itself in this vicinity as it enters and leaves the Loop.  Other switches are nearby.  It is completely fascinating.

Tower 18 that controls it all is in view.  It is a more modern replacement for that shown on the previous page in this series.
