VANCOUVER LIGHT RAIL
Older and Newer Trains

SkyTrain has long claimed to be "The world's longest automated light rapid transit system."  And it has become quite a bit longer, with the coming of the Canada Line in 2009.

This view of tracks for reversing direction and storage just beyond Waterfront Station on the original route shows a train of older "Mark I" cars stored to the left.  The switch is set to allow access for a "Mark II" train, waiting to the right with its lights on.

SkyTrain utilizes on these older lines an uncommon linear induction motor technology, evidence of which -- the wide LIM rail -- is seen between the two running rails.
