Mountains Beyond the City

When visibility is good the mountains that rim Vancouver to the north are an impressive urban backdrop visible along much of the above-ground running on the routes. 

The alignment of the route from Commercial-Broadway out into New Westminster generally follows above the former right of way of a BC Electric interurban line.  Passenger service ended in the 1950s.  Parts of that line survived with diesel-powered freight service into fairly recent years.  There are still lots of segments of old, disused rail in place at various points below.
