This view from the summer of 2006 shows mowed
grass and tended young trees on one side of the private right of
way, and a plaza constructed adjacent to the Courtyard hotel on the other side.
The urban landscape had evolved considerably in just a few years.
The public space is called Tollefson Plaza.
The western portion is mostly grass and planted trees. The eastern
portion contains an area built to be suitable for concerts and other
gatherings and events. There has been considerable local criticism
about how the site has been developed and utilized, likely part of larger
issues involving the general redevelopment of downtown Tacoma. |
