Much of the Illinois right of way for MetroLink follows
an old Louisville & Nashville route, including this portion of the line
in Belleville. Years ago there was a railroad stop in this area
that provided service to and from both namesake cities of that railroad. MetroLink has been notably successful in
incorporating old railroad lines into its network.
A bike and pedestrian path parallels the
rails near the station, and extends outbound to the next station, at
College.
