Manufacturing facilities, both active and in ruins,
abut the tracks on the straight stretch along the old Wabash route. There are frequent
grade crossings in this area, and, as in East St. Louis and elsewhere, train horns are
used repeatedly. This view is not far from Wellston station, one
of the lesser stops along the route.
