ST. LOUIS LIGHT RAIL
East St. Louis

Taken through the rear and heavily tinted windows of a Missouri-bound train this photo shows greenery and the curving MetroLink right of way in East St. Louis.  The building in the background is the tallest in that Illinois city.  It is unoccupied, and in a state of heavy disrepair.

The train is heading for the East Riverfront station and then Eads Bridge.  Once upon a time tracks fanned out from that bridge in this area to connect with numerous railroad lines running to and from the north, east and south.  And the freight yards of a great many railroads extended toward the river on either side of this right of way.
