SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT RAIL
Proof of Payment

The view in this scene is through the window along the K-Ingleside line near Balboa Park.

Muni light rail lines utilize a proof-of-payment system.  There are turnstiles and manned booths in the underground portions of the line, and out through West Portal, but out on city streets it is the honor system.  People with passes, transfers or other authority may enter at any train door; those needing to pay must use the front entrance, and must have exact fare ready.  Many passengers seem insistent to show their passes or transfers to the operator, entirely unnecessarily, but a habit from an older time.
