SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT RAIL
Montgomery Post

The Ferry Building looms in the background as this PCC heads along Market St.
When the light rail routes were being readied for subway running the original plan was to remove surface tracks on Market -- which would have ended over a century of rail street operation.  Preservation forces gained the day, and the current Historic Streetcar service is extremely popular.

The F-line is operated by Muni, but the non-profit organization known as Market Street Railway partners in providing much volunteer and financial support, including acquisition, restoration and maintenance of the vehicles.
