train for City Center is approaching. Traffic on Interstate 5, visible
to the right, is heavy, but not as congested as it can often get.
Vancouver, Washington, lies several miles ahead. In initial
planning, MAX was designed to continue across the Columbia River to that city,
a major Portland suburb. It may yet get there, someday, but voter
rejection of a required tax increase led to the indefinite postponing of a
route crossing the state line. |
