This view is from the narrow south walkway of Broadway
Bridge, the next span north from Steel Bridge. All through
center city there are bridges to the east every some few blocks or so.
A MAX train is barely visible passing on the structure. On shore,
freight cars are parked by the large riverside grain terminal. The
Eastside of Portland is generally flatter than much of what is west of the
Willamette, but it also contains an unusual feature for a major American city:
an extinct volcano, Mt. Tabor. |
