It fades more and more with passing time, but when the
lighting is right one can still see vestiges of an old emblem high up on Steel Bridge.
It is probably that of the Oregon Railway and Navigation Co., a subsidiary
of the Union Pacific. That line was absorbed by its parent company in
the 1930s.
Union Pacific owns the bridge even now, and has arrangements with TriMet
and the City of Portland for its public use and maintenance. |
