On the downtown side of the bridge, trains are descending where the tracks separate for the the two different
routes through center city. Red and Blue Line trains turn left ahead, to head onto NW 1st Ave. Green and Yellow Line trains go right, toward
Union Station, before they turn sharply south to access the Portland Mall.
Steel Bridge was closed to all traffic, including MAX light rail, for some
weeks in the summer of 2008 while work took place to install the new
junction and to make traffic changes. A camera was strategically placed to allow Web users to follow
construction progress, both before and during the closure period. |
