Steel Bridge and a MAX train slice through this image,

the foreground. The Portland Rose Festival has a rich history. one that goes back
now a century and more. Visiting ships support the occasion. Navy, Coast Guard, and Canadian
vessels were moored along
the Willamette for the 2006 celebration at the time of this scene.
There has been substantial redevelopment in the once-gritty
industrial and commercial area northwest of Steel Bridge. Some of that
new construction is visible toward the bottom of the photo. |
