Portland maintains an extensive downtown shopping core,
something likely uncommon elsewhere for a city of its approximate size. This is especially
notable considering that a huge indoor mall exists not that far away, accessible
from within the Free Rail Zone, on the other side of the Willamette River.
This southbound Yellow Line train has entered these shopping blocks. It
is early on a weekend morning, and most stores are not yet open.
As
noted in another segment, downtown Portland is known for the nurturing of
trees on many or most of its streets. These specimens along SW 5th Ave.
are yet to display much of the leaf color associated with northern
autumns. |
