The subway portion of the line begins at Newark
Penn Station -- surely a name from a different transportation era.
That station is an imposing building. Both Amtrak and NJ Transit
commuter trains call there, as does the PATH heavy rail service to
Hoboken (with connections to Manhattan). It is also a major bus point,
for both local and
long-distance routes.
The tracks for the City Subway are a bit removed from the center of
action. The platforms have the feel of an older and more
important time, a time when numerous other trolley routes also
terminated there. |
