It was a warm June day in 2000 at the
time this photo was taken. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line
was just a couple months old. The
train in this photo is turning sharply to the north, to run along Hudson St. Beyond
is a plot of riverfront being readied for new development;
and further on is the river, with a sailboat off to the left.
Across the water lies
Manhattan, and the massive "forever" presence of the towers of the World Trade Center. But for a
disabled train, cleared by the time of this picture, I would not
have been walking here that day, and I would not have had the opportunity
to capture this scene -- a scene too soon
and forevermore impossible to
duplicate. |
