The Charlotte Trolley started out as a very short
line in the South End using true vintage equipment -- a single car
-- but lacking overhead power. From this beginning in 1996 the
line has evolved to an approximately two-mile route between
Atherton Mill in the South End and 9th St. in Uptown Charlotte. Normal
operation sees the use of any of three replica cars manufactured by
Gomaco Trolley Co., including #92, shown here at the northern
terminal.
The Trolley is operated by CATS, Charlotte Area Transit System,
which also runs the LYNX Blue Line. The two systems stop at
seven stations in common. In addition the heritage line has
four stops unique to its route: this one at 9th; midway along its route,
at Morehead; and two stations at its southern end, Tremont, and the
southern terminal. |
