Enter Here, Lechmere |

The general feel is fairly old-style outside the
Lechmere station. Inside the fare barriers, a Green Line train to Heath waits,
with its doors open.
The Lechmere station entered service in 1912,
after completion of the viaduct over the Charles River. The
trolley system, like the subway and elevated routes, was under the ownership of Boston Elevated Railway until public operation came about
in 1947. The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) evolved into
the
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) about seventeen years
later. |
